In January 2008 electrical work was carried out on the three level basement car park, and on completion moved to the new construction of the eight level integrated main building. This work incorporated the historic Charter House and the E. Tingey & Co Building. At completion this complex is the first part of the new headquarters for Westpac Banking.

Q4 Technology Complex

Electrix completed the latest Smales Farm building Q4 On The Boulevard in conjunction with Scarbro Construction. The project started out as a simple retail and office base build electrical contract, but turned into a substantial project, tripling in value and construction time.

Eden Park Temporary Sports Lighting and Enabling Works

After the Bledisloe Cup game on the 2nd August 2008 Eden Park began its make over for the 2011 World Cup. Electrix won the contract to install four temporary lighting towers. These are required for night lighting when the existing east stand is dismantled.

Energex Construction & Maintenance

Under this contract Electrix provided construction & maintenance services on the Energex distribution network in the Brisbane region. This contract was for an initial 3 year term but was successfully rolled over for further terms.

The scope of work included replacement of poles and cross arms, up-rating of pole and ground mounted substations, RMU maintenance and both overhead and underground system maintenance and construction.

Ergon Energy - Construction and Maintenance - Southern Region

 Electrix was successful in tendering for the Construction and Maintenance in Southern Region with Ergon Energy in April 2004 for an initial 2 year plus 1+1+1 year contract term.

The contract required Electrix to supply personnel in Overhead and Underground construction and Maintenance to perform works across the Southern Region of Queensland.

The contract was successfully extended on a number of occasions until April 2010.

The specialised skills provided by the Electrix team assist CitiPower to maintain high standards of network reliability and security for the critical Melbourne CBD and inner city areas.

Powercor Asset Inspection and Maintenance Services

In June 2015, Electrix achieved a major milestone with the renewal of the Asset Inspection contract servicing Powercor and Citipower. This contract renewal built upon the strong relationship enjoyed with Powercor over almost 18 years of providing similar services in their network area.

The contract has progressively expanded and today involves inspection of approximately 180,000 poles per annum under a combination of 5 year and 2.5 year cycles.

Powercor & CitiPower Construction and Maintenance Services

Electrix has been consistently undertaking construction and maintenance activities on both the Powercor and CitiPower distribution networks for a period which now extends beyond twelve years. This successful long-term relationship was first formalised in 2001 with the signing of a ‘Period Works Partnering Agreement’ with Powercor. That initial agreement has subsequently been successfully renewed and extended on a number of occasions with the latest contract agreement running to July 2018.

CitiPower Public Lighting Maintenance

Electrix undertakes maintenance services on all public lighting assets within the entire CitiPower network area and parts of the Powercor network area, Melbourne CBD and inner suburban areas. This covers more than 109,000 light fittings including 13,000 in the Melbourne City Council area.

This important contract was one of the earliest successes for Electrix in Australia. Due to the ongoing good work from the field crews, the contract has been extended on several occasions and following the most recent contract renewal now extends over a period in excess of 20 years.

SP AusNet Public Lighting Maintenance

The SP AusNet Public Lighting Maintenance contract is for the provision of Public Lighting Maintenance and Bulk Change Services across their Network in Victoria, Australia.

The contract covers the outer eastern and northern suburbs of Melbourne plus the eastern half of Victoria and is for an initial term of three years.

Powerco inherited the above 66kV line from the NZED some 30 years ago, this line was constructed in 1956 and was the sole source of supply for Whitianga and a large part of the Coromandel Peninsula up until the completion of the new 110kV line Electrix constructed recently.

Electrix has been successful with two projects associated with the Te Kowhai 33kV cable works and has won this work, evaluated by WEL on their weighted average attribute evaluation method, which analyses not only price but also methodology, resources and relevant experience.

Ngatamariki Electrical Transmission Facility

The new Ngatamariki Power Station is located in the Ngatamariki geothermal field which is approximately 17km North East of Taupo. Electrix was awarded the contract to link it to the existing power station at Nga Awa Purua by the construction of 7.5km long 220kV single circuit line with OPGW.

Motat Tramline Extension

Electrix was awarded this project by Jesmond Construction Limited as a result of the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) decision to extend their tramline from the Auckland Zoo Station to the MOTAT’s Aviation and Rail museum in Motions Road, Western Springs.

As a result of the decision by the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) to extend their tramline from the Auckland Zoo to MOTAT’s Aviation and Rail museum in Motions Road, Vector agreed to covert their overhead lines to underground to make this extension possible.

Central Otago Pole Replacement and Line Renewal

Electrix secured the competitively tendered period contract for Network Pole Replacement and Line Renewal in the Central Otago area for Delta, Asset Managers for the Aurora Energy Ltd Central Otago distribution network.

Western Power Asset Inspection

Electrix Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to provide wood pole inspection services for the southern portion of the SWIS in June 2010. The award of this contract followed a major review by Western Power of their inspection and asset management processes. The objective of the new processes is to transform the way in which network assets are inspected and to greatly improve network reliability, safety and maintenance planning.

Ergon Energy Asset Inspection - Southern Region

The contract required Electrix to carry out inspection and minor maintenance tasks on approximately 130,000 poles per year within the Wide Bay and Toowoomba regions. The contract area extended from coastal areas down to the New South Wales Border and across to the South Australian Border some 15 hours to the West.

SP Ausnet Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project

As part of this rollout Electrix has been engaged by SP AusNet to install approximately 300,000 smart meters over a four year period in both urban and rural areas across their network.

At the peak of the project it is estimated that the Electrix  field team of up to 60 technicians will be exchanging 15,000 meters per month.

Powercor Armour Rod and Damper Retrofit Program

In late 2012 Electrix was awarded a major contract by Powercor Network Services (PNS) to undertake the Armour Rod & Vibration Damper Retrofit Program across the Powercor electricity network in Western Victoria.

This important program of work was initiated to deliver key network  safety improvements being implemented by Victoria’s Distribution networks following the Bushfire Royal Commission which investigated the Black Saturday fires of early 2009.



ABC reconductoring

Western Power ABC Reconductoring

The ABC reconductoring contract required Electrix to undertake high priority works involving the re-conductoring of 12km of Aerial Bundled Conductor (ABC) in the town of Albany.

The works included 260 Low Voltage pole changes, 30 High Voltage pole changes and 560 house service replacements together with all switching requirements.

Electrix worked closely with Western Power and the Albany shire to ensure successful delivery of this project safely, on time and on budget


BHP Billiton Nickel West Wood pole inspection

Electrix recently undertook the condition assessment and audit of the 11kV and 33kV high voltage power lines for BHP Billiton Nickel West in and around its processing plant located in Kambalda Western Australia. These poles, hardware and conductor represent a high capital investment by BHP. Correct maintenance protects this investment and contributes to the safety of staff and the public.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Services

In May 2016, Electrix were approached by SA Power Networks (SAPN) to inspect a number of sites that were unable to be inspected previously by helicopter due to difficult locations and hazardous areas. The project involved the inspection of 42 poles at selected sites provided by the client with sites spread across 6 feeder segments.

Out of the 42 sites inspected, 5 required follow-up maintenance work and one defect was identified to be a priority one.

Newmarket and Footscray Electrical Power Resilience Project

The Newmarket and Footscray Electrical Power Resilience (EPR) Project was initiated by Metro Trains Melbourne on behalf of Public Transport Victoria to improve the reliability of its traction power system. As part of the project Electrix was engaged as design and construct contractor to install a new 22kV feeder connection between the North Melbourne and Newmarket substations and to complete works required to facilitate a secondary 22kV connection at Footscray Substation.

Light Column Inspection Trial

SA Power Networks requested Electrix to conduct a three month trial to inspect 1000 light columns in the Metro area of Adelaide using the PortaCAT Industries Relative Loss of Section (RLS) device and to gather additional valuable data for the client’s reference.

Electrix was able to highlight the cost savings and benefits to the client utilising the RLS device and met the contract time frame delivering the results to the client.

UAV Pole Inspection

In November 2016, Electrix was engaged by Powercor to undertake the inspection of sub-transmission lines which provide grid connection for these wind farms operated by Pacific Hydro near Portland in Western Victoria. This included 398 off 66kV poles associated with the Portland wind farm and an additional 80 poles for the Challicum Hills wind farm.

Utilising our ElMast and UAV capability for pole top inspection is a cost effective way to undertake accurate condition assessment and defect identification on high voltage lines where increased pole height makes ground based inspection less effective.

The project was originally awarded to Siemens Energy Services in August 2010, and with the subsequent sale of Siemens contract to Electrix in April 2011, the project was transferred to Electrix for completion in May 2011.

Gas Meter Replacement Project

Electrix were awarded the contract to replace approximately 3,500 residential GMS (Gas Measurement System) meters between September 2010 and June 2011 within the Auckland District to comply with NZS 5259: Gas Measurement Standard that require all residential meter types over 20 years of age to be replaced and tested (at the laboratory) for accuracy.

Te Apiti Wind Farm 110kV Transmission Line

The project involved the installation of a transmission line 4.5km long running from the Te Apiti substation on Saddle Road to the Woodville substation. This line would provide the wind farm connection to the national electricity grid.

Roxburgh HV Transmission Lines Refurbishment

As part of Contact Energy’s ongoing maintenance of it’s assets, Electrix Ltd completed a study into the condition of transmission lines owned by Contact Energy between the Roxburgh Power Station and Transpower’s 110/220kV switchyard downstream from the power station. As a result of the findings of this investigation, it was recommended that all aerial hardware, insulators and deadends be replaced.

Boral Bricks Darra Plant Upgrade

In early 2013 Electrix was awarded two contracts by Boral Bricks Queensland to undertake work at their Darra, Queensland manufacturing plant.

The first contract involved the replacement of the Plant No.1 Main Switchboard, the provision of LV distribution switchgear and upgrading of the sub-mains associated with the new Keller Kiln and Dryer upgrade works.

The second contract included replacement of both the extruder and clay preparation Motor Control Centre’s, the supply and installation of 2 x 500kW Variable Frequency Drives together with upgrading the plant safety systems to AS4024:2006 Category 2 status.

Electrix Pty Ltd is proud to have been awarded the Electrical, Instrumentation and Control (EIC) contract for the APLNG Main Pipeline being constructed by MCJV -McConnell Dowell Constructors Australia and Consolidated Contracting Company Australia.

Electrix Pty Ltd was awarded a contract by ABB Australia to fit out, test and commission nine 33 kV demountable switch-rooms destined for QCLNG Wolleebee, Jordan and Bellevue project sites near Chinchilla, Western Queensland.

GLNG Roma Upstream project

In early 2013 Electrix was awarded the contract for electrical installation work associated with the upstream gas gathering facilities for the GLNG coal seam gas project near Roma, Western Queensland.

The duration of the project is for a period of 18 months and at its peak will employ over 75 Electrix employees with the majority engaged under fly-in / fly-out arrangements.

Arnotts Biscuits Installation works

The client, Arnott’s Biscuits engaged Electrix to undertake electrical and control systems work associated with the installation of new biscuit lines L4 and L7.  The work was complex brown-field work in an operational plant and needed to be undertaken on a very tight installation schedule through the 2013/2014 Christmas/New Year break.

The installation program required two crews working a 24 hr schedule to meet the Arnott’s milestones.  The work was completed on time and within budget with a commendation received from the client regarding the excellent work achieved throughout the project

Wagner Silos and VRM Expansion project

Electrix has been awarded the design, integration and programming of the PLC and SCADA system for the new Vertical Roller Mill and Silo Expansion Project at Bulwer Island, Brisbane. The new installation will further improve the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of the Company’s cement manufacturing facilities.

Monreagh Pump Station Electrical and Instrumentation

Electrix was engaged by McConnell Dowell to undertake all electrical, instrumentation and High Voltage Overhead Line works associated with the Monreagh Pump Station in central Queensland. McConnell Dowell had been engaged as the main contractor for construction of the Pump Station including the mechanical installation of all pumps and associated pipe works as part of Origin Energy’s APLNG Gas Pipeline.

Electrix was engaged by Fluor to undertake the electrical and instrumentation works associated with the Fairview 04 Gas Compression Facilities. The original request was for 6 Tradespersons and subsequently grew to a team of 76 consisting of Electrical and Instrumentation Tradespersons supported by an experienced Project Management, Construction Management, Controls Management, Supervision, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering team.

The scope of the project involved replacement of an existing 6.6kV /415V transformer with a new 22kV /415V 350kVA unit, installation of main and sub-main distribution networks.

Electrix was responsible for specifying and procuring all equipment, carrying out the installation and managing the commissioning of the final circuits, ensuring customer supplies were maintained.

Roy Hill Port Facility Electrical and Instrumentation Installation works

McConnell Dowell have awarded Electrix Pty Ltd the Electrical and Installation sub-contract for the Roy Hill Port Facility Package 4 project in Port Hedland, Western Australia. 

The 55 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) Roy Hill Project is the most recent iron ore mining, rail & port project to be developed in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. It is a world-class, low phosphorus, Marra Mamba iron ore deposit situated approximately 115 kilometres north of Newman.

Data and Power Installation - RMIT

The Electrix Telecommunications Division was successful in being awarded the prestigious installation contract for the new structured data cabling and power reticulation within the all new RMIT - Future Advanced Manufacturing Precinct Building 55, which was officially opened on the 7th June 2011 by the Victoria State Premier Ted Baillieu in the presence of Melbourne dignitaries.

132kV and 66kV Transmission Line project

Electrix Pty Ltd was awarded this design and construct project to strengthen the growing need for a reliable power supply for this part of Central Queensland.

The project involved design and construction of a 47 Km long 66 kV single circuit line with an integrated 4 km long double circuit section for future provisions. End to end OPGW stringing and one 1.5 km long 132 kV Interconnector was also included.

BEN‐HAY A HVDC Tower Replacement Project

As part of Transpower's strategy to increase the capacity of the inter‐island 350kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) link, Electrix was engaged to undertake the replacement of transmission towers on the Benmore‐Haywards A transmission line in a variety of locations between South/Mid/North Canterbury‐Marlborough.

Pakuranga - Penrose A Dismantle

As part of the North Auckland and Northland Grid Upgrade (NAaN ) project Electrix was awarded the Pakuranga - Penrose A line dismantle tender. The work consisted of removing the double circuit copper and ACSR conductors, (6 spans), along the entire line length and the removal of the thirty five towers on the line.

As part of Transpower's North Island Grid Upgrade project (NIGUP) Electrix was awarded through the “Yours to Lose “process the above project. The double circuit, duplex tie line connected the existing Whakamaru Substation to the new Whakamaru North Switching Station.

Ohinewai Switching Station

Transpower required a new 220kV switching station to be built at Ohinewai in New Zealand to further support security of supply for the upper North Island. The project was important to the network and therefore had to be fast tracked.

Electrix was contracted to carry out mechanical and electrical installation works for the 220kV Switchyard with three 220/33kV transformers and a 33kV Schneider switchboard.

Timaru 11kV Switchboard Replacement ‐ Electrical Site Works

The aging existing 11KV switchgear at Timaru substation was scheduled for replacement. The existing switchgear was replaced with RPS LMVP withdrawable 11KV switchgear. This switchgear consists of three busbar sections which were installed in a new building.

Albany 100Mvar SVC

Electrix has played a key part in the upgrading of the Albany Substation. Initially Electrix installed a third 220/33kV 120MVA supply transformer in support of the two existing units. An extension of this project also saw the provision of additional operational security on the 220kV Bus System to further improve the reliability of the substation.

New Zealand Inter Island HVDC Pole 3 Project

This project replaces the existing Pole 1 with the new Pole 3 at Benmore Substation, comprising of state‐of‐the‐art thyristor valve converter equipment. It will increase capacity of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) inter‐island link that connects Haywards substation in the North Island and Benmore substation in the South Island.

Glenelg Tram Overpass - South Road

This Glenelg Tram Overpass project was a major initiative by the South Australian Government to both improve the Glenelg tram service and reduce congestion on the busy South Road corridor.

The development of the overpass required the construction of a parallel temporary running track in July, and the subsequent construction of the new permanent track once the overpass bridge was complete.

As main contractor for the project, McConnell Dowell brought Electrix on board to install the overhead traction power supply and provide associated electrical installations. The strong focus by Electrix on quality and safety were key factors in our appointment.

Western Power has a major Transmission Capital Program that included the up-grade of the existing North Perth 132/11kV switchyard within the Perth metropolitan area.

Electrix Pty Ltd was awarded the contract after being accepted onto the Western Power Panel for first tier contractors.

Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project

Electrix parent company McConnell Dowell is a key member of the Goldlinq Consortium which was engaged by the Queensland Government to build and operate The Gold Coast Rapid Transit Project. Electrix is working with MacDow to complete much of the extensive electrical infrastructure works associated with this major project.


Huia Water Treatment Plant Chemical Area PLC Migration

Watercare's Huia Water Treatment Plant filters and treats 25% of Auckland’s 370,000 m3 of daily water and required the installation and upgrading of the chemical dosing systems. All systems are controlled by PLC controllers and managed at the plants main control room.
