Key Facts

Project: Wood Pole Inspection

Client: BHP Billiton Nickel West

Location: Kambalda, Western Australia

Duration: March 2015

Electrix recently undertook the condition assessment and audit of the 11kV and 33kV high voltage power lines for BHP Billiton Nickel West in and around its processing plant located in Kambalda Western Australia. These poles, hardware and conductor represent a high capital investment by BHP. Correct maintenance protects this investment and contributes to the safety of staff and the public.

The inspection of poles was carried out to Western Australian network standards and in accordance with criteria set by the client. A comprehensive report on each line, pole by pole was provided to BHP using data extracted from the inspection software including photos of all structures, pole tops and defects.

With the completion of this project BHP Billiton Nickel West now has accurate base line records of the state of its aerial HV assets on the six lines in Kambalda. This will enable them to better plan and budget their maintenance expenditure over the next 4 years.
