Gas Meter Replacement Project

Key Facts

  • Project: Replacement of Domestic GMS Meters
  • Client: Contact Energy
  • Location: Auckland District
  • Contract Value: NZ$280,000

Electrix were awarded the contract to replace approximately 3,500 residential GMS (Gas Measurement System) meters between September 2010 and June 2011 within the Auckland District to comply with NZS 5259: Gas Measurement Standard that require all residential meter types over 20 years of age to be replaced and tested (at the laboratory) for accuracy.

The scope involves contacting Contact Energy's customers and retailers in advance informing them of the need to change their domestic meter during working hours and arranging an agreeable appointment time to enable this and to relight appliances effected by turning off the gas supply for the meter exchange.

Whilst on site we additionally carry out inspections of regulators to ensure they are compliant and any potentially hazardous or regulators found to be non compliant are exchanged at the same time as the meter.

The meter replacement project is undertaken by our experienced team of Gas Fitters who are qualified by the PGDB (Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drain-layers Board). The Gas Fitters all hold the relevant Certificates of Competency to complete this work safely.

Progress reporting to Contact Energy is completed weekly and as at the end of May 2011 we have completed 3,000 meter exchanges and are on target to complete the full 3,500 before the end of June 2011 as scheduled, with no lost time incidents.
